Location: Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the southernmost country in Central America. (Panama is considered to be in South America) With a population of approximately four million people, a diverse climate and a well-educated populace, it is an ideal location in which to explore the aims of the Peace Army. It is unique among all countries of the world as being the only place that has intentionally disbanded its army. It also holds the United Nations University for Peace. One of its former presidents, Oscar Arias, was the 1987 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He is also an ardent supporter of the Peace Army through the Arias Foundation.
